AERIAL PHONOGRAPHY
A sound project recording hot air balloon journeys. Flying above a landscape, I will record sounds moving up from the ground, creating a sonic map of the journey I am taken on. Funded by Arts Council England.

About Me

As a sound designer, I have worked on a diverse range of projects, including audio installations, radio, film, motion graphics and commercials. After working in Soho for The Sound Designers and 750 MPH, I set up on my own working for clients such as Saab, Nike, Intro, and why not associates. Christmas 2005 saw my feature length debut as sound designer for BBC1's animated adaptation of The Snow Queen. Alongside commercial jobs, I work on site-specific experimental sound projects. In 2005 I co-organised Radio Taxi: a two week RSL broadcast from Taxi Gallery, Cambridge. I have exhibited sound installations and worked with artists internationally in New York, Memphis and Vienna. In November 2005, working with choreographer Rosemary Butcher, I composed a site-specific sound piece for The Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, and more recently created/installed a multichannel soundtrack for ‘Lock’, a new film exhibited in New York by artist Catherine Yass.

I was trying to work out why the burner noise was causing some compression pixelation on the vid, then realised, as the baloon came closer, that it was actually reflection from the ground. Nice landing!
Wow! What a unique way to capture binaural sound! I have just started to use this technique to capture the sound of my broken battered and moaning boiler and other battered machinery. Are you still showing your work in Cambridge- i would love to come along and experience it as a 'walk'.
